Songs of Feeling

About the album

In Songs of Feeling, I wanted to create a collection of songs that hopefully has the capacity to be poignant across a lifespan, not just a snapshot in time. I wanted to discuss and share many common but difficult experiences. Each song was written as a way to reflect and process my journey or the journey of others. Whether a song is written about my own or someone else’s experiences, they’re all based on the true stories of myself or someone close to me. This album shares those stories and meaningful interactions to this point, my life in places other than music, and the relationships I am eternally grateful to have shared. Even if fleeting, some of them have made an impact that I’ll carry with me forever. And I’m so excited that Dennis is making his debut as a songwriter and top liner!

Bio

Anton du Preez is a composer, singer, and songwriter in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. He is a regular performer and recording artist, and also composes and produces for various projects. His credits include a number of Hallmark and Lifetime films, the TV series “Demonhuntr,” singing for video games including Destiny, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, and he has released several albums. He is a transcriber for Disney Character Voices International, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a registered therapy dog team, a US Navy veteran, and proudly gay.

In 2018, Anton earned his Master of Music in Film Composition, studying with two-time Emmy Award winning composer, Hummie Mann, at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program in Seattle. In 2017, Anton was a featured soloist with the Seattle Symphony for their Celebrate Asia concert. He was hired to perform with Jim James and the Seattle Symphony: The Order of Nature in 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a former member of the Seattle Symphony Chorale and works as a sessions artist for commercial music and soundtracks.

He has been singing since he took his first breath, embraced the trumpet and piano when he was 6 years old, and later picked up guitar and percussion. He honed his formal training at Nebraska Wesleyan University with a primary focus on vocal performance, as well as trumpet, piano, and composition, publishing/performing several original pieces for brass quintet, chorale, and pop ensembles.

After college, Anton served as a musician in the United States Navy as the Pacific Fleet Band’s lead vocalist/entertainer. He was the primary arranger for the contemporary rock ensemble, while composing or orchestrating charts for various other ensembles. He also played trumpet, piano, guitar, and percussion as needed.

His greatest joy in life is sharing and experiencing music. Its ability to simultaneously convey and elicit emotion to enhance the experience of life and film, and to express complex feelings with the vast array of tiny nuances or grandiose breadth that words alone can never express. Anton hopes to share this experience with you!
